GENERAL X-RAYS

Radiography, or the taking of x-rays as it is more commonly known, is the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging. Discovered by Wilhelm Roentgen more than a century ago, x-rays produce diagnostic images on film or digitally on a computer screen.

X-rays are a type of electromagnetic radiation which pass through the body. Modern techniques use very small doses, approximately 20 milliroentgens per single exposure. Put into perspective, we all receive about 100 milliroentgens radiation exposure each year from natural sources like the sun and trace isotopes in soil.

For safety sake women should always inform their doctor or radiographer (x-ray technologist) if there is any possibility they may be pregnant.
